Push / Shove
by Amber McMillan
Persephone is a celestial body
in dual orbit with Earth and the underworld,
a gravitational tether, a maiden
and a queen, the surface and the depth,
where she is also neither. Icarus is a satellite
on a flight path to the sun, the tidal
dissolution of hubris. A threshold
between desire and what sustains. I’m saying
everyone knows Orpheus looked back
and everyone knows Eurydice was gone.
