Announcing the judge for our CNF competition
carte blanche and the Creative Nonfiction Collective Society are pleased to announce the judge for our inaugural creative nonfiction competition: Don Sedgwick has worked in the Canadian book and magazine industries for 35 years as a writer, editor, publisher, literary agent and educator. He is the Executive Director of the new MFA in Creative Nonfiction at the University of King’s College and also teaches in the university’s Master of Journalism program. He has also taught at the Humber School for Writers, Ryerson University, and in the graduate publishing program at Simon Fraser University. Until recently he was the chair (and previously the president) of the Transatlantic Agency, which represents more than 250 award-winning authors in Canada and around the world. The agency’s authors have won all of the major nonfiction prizes and awards in Canada. Earlier in his career he was the publisher of Doubleday Canada, where his author David Adams Richards won the Governor General’s Literary Award for Nonfiction. He has served as a board member with the Nova Scotia Talent trust, as a juror for the Canada Council for the Arts, and now as a provincially appointed member of Arts Nova Scotia. He has an Honours BFA from York University and recently completed his MBA at St. Mary’s University, where his thesis focused on new business models for e-books. He divides his time between Halifax and his home in rural Nova Scotia.The winner will be announced in Spring 2014. Stay tuned!
