call for applications: comics editor
carte blanche, founded in 2004, is the official online magazine of the Quebec Writers’ Federation. We are celebrating 20 years of promoting poetry, creative nonfiction, comics, translation, photography, fiction, and literary commentary from Quebec, Canada, and around the world. With ongoing support from the Canada Council of the Arts and private donations, carte blanche is able to pay all of its contributors and maintains a dynamic and unique niche online.
Currently, carte blanche is seeking a new comics editor to join the editorial team.
The comics editor works independently and in collaboration with the editorial team to help steer the magazine forward. The successful candidate would lead the comics section of carte blanche for three issues per year (spring, summer, and fall). Their responsibilities would include evaluating all comics submissions received, organizing submissions, and responding to artists through Submittable.
The position receives an annual stipend of $600 ($200 per issue edited).
Interested candidates for the position should send a brief resume and a letter including their reasons for applying to editors@carte-blanche.org before August 31st, 2024. The comics editor’s duties will formally commence in September 2024 with work on issue 50. Since carte blanche is a Montreal-based publication it is suggested but not a requirement for the candidate to reside in Montreal.
carte blanche, as affiliated with the QWF, actively seeks to maximize diversity in its staff, part-time employees, membership, and board of directors. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals, and encourage Indigenous persons, persons of colour, LGBTQ+ and gender-nonconforming persons, persons with disabilities, women, and members of any other marginalized group to self‐identify if they are comfortable doing so.
